A message from the Prez
The weekend before the Rodman Plantation H/S , as you recall . Somewhere , hidden from view , a perfectly good 2001 KTM EXC 250 was waiting to be found !!!!   Lets see , approx , 5 square miles of good old Florida Woods , I guess you could call this the preverbal needle in the haystack .  We kinda remember where we left the KTM laying in the weeds , and the Land Owner kinda has an idea where two dummies left a good motorcycle , in the hidden spot .   His directions were , well they seemed pretty easy to follow , go west thru two gates , turn right and follow one of the major roads all the way to the north side of the property .  Well , as we thought about things , we figured , you know , being as we kinda know where we left the scooter , and we kinda know our way around the property , we can use the land owners directions , and you know shorten up on the process , you know trim the mileage down a little .......  Well it seemed like a pretty good plan . Mike Shirley on his 4 wheeler , and me on the back of Jason Chambers 4 wheeler , set off for a quick run out to where we left the KTM.  Well , after about 3 or 4 miles of ridding around and not seeing anything that looked familiar , Jason said , Big Man , you need to get your old 500 , cruise these roads at a higher rate of speed  , and find where you left that bike .  After all , we pretty much followed the land owners directions and couldn't find the bike .  So back to camp , and off on the old CR 500 .    Just so everyone remembers , The # 1 Rule for checking out large pieces of property on your scooter is , Always make sure you have a full tank of gas !!!!  Huh , Imagine that !!  After some decent high speed Road Riding , I finally found the major road that the land owner had told us about . But what was a major road to him was indeed not a major road to me . Anyway , away I went . Guess what , It led me straight to where the KTM was hidden . Good deal , the bike was found , so off I go heading back to camp at a high rate of speed , then all of a sudden   ,  you know the feeling , just like you hit the kill button at 60 mph .  Remember RULE #1 !!!!   Well , luck was with me . The fuel tank on the Old 500 held about 4 extra ounces of fuel on the side opposite side of the petcock . So I leaned the bike over and got all the fuel to the petcock side of the tank . Hoping that meager 4 ozs would get me back , off I went .  So I rode back to the camp , pulled right up in front of everyone like nothing had happened . Whew !!  Can you imagine , It was bad enough to loose a bike , but to run out of gas looking for it , Well , I would never live that down !! Boy , I'm glad no-one knows that I forgot about , ( RULE # 1  )  The KTM was found , and life is good !!
