The Prez Sez - May 2001
Why do our own FTR Clubs think that using the same old trail , on the same piece of property , and running the trail backwards is supposed to be considered a Quality Event !! I get tired of hearing the same old lame tired excuses and the biggest thing that I get tired of hearing from our club people is the saying , "It doesn't have to be even a good trail , THE PEOPLE WILL SHOW UP AND RIDE NO MATTER WHAT THEY'RE GIVEN TO RIDE." What kind of attitude is That ????
With Gasoline prices going above $1.60 per gallon and our FTR Families driving from all over the state and paying $40 Race Entry Fees, they deserve better than what they have been getting ! I would like all of our FTR Moms and Dads and Riders to take a look around and count the injuries that are adding up on the Sunday Events. There are reasons why these are happening! It is not simply because our riders are out of control, and riding over their heads!! Don't get me wrong, motorcycle racing is dangerous - we all know that! I am going to get to the point and voice my opinion: Most of our Florida event properties cannot hold up to the amount of use or, perhaps, the designed use that we put them through . Which in turn, creates a more dangerous riding situation on Sunday. Using the same trail over and over again is one of the major problems (CLUB LAZINESS ). With the amount of 4 wheelers that are opening up and straightening out narrow trails (BY CHOICE) creates faster and more dangerous wider trails for Approx. 400 Sunday Riders. Practice laps by all our riders, by design, creates more wear and tear on all of our trails. With all of us wanting more riding time and nicer trails, something has to give !!!!
Get involved, Be part of the solution, not part of the Problem. Changes are being made by the officials for the majority of the people! Don't whine, don't cry and complain! Do what you can to help not hinder! Maybe it's time for the Referee to give each CLUB and EVENT a Performance Rating and in turn, according to where the particular club finishes in the performance rating, that will be the order in which they get to choose their next H/S at the Sanction Meeting. I know, it wouldn't be my choice to have a Club Event to be considered the worst FTR Event of the Year!! I have pride in the way trails are made and by the way club personnel handle a race!! DOES YOUR CLUB?? Lets get with the program, the FTR is growing by leaps and bounds and it is a constant battle to keep it a family fun atmosphere as it has always been! Lets go, pitch in and help, it's your FTR !!!!
Thanks for your time. Terry Enyart - Big Man
