Anyone out there have any idea whether the stock 2.11 gal. tank on a KTM 450 EXC is big enough to run a full 2 hour hare scramble? ?Thanks
Depends on how hard you're running it, but I would think it would not make it.

Lane I know(top 5 racer) a guy that races in A open on a 450 with EXC tank and has made every FTR race without stopping.

Thanks guys (and those who PM'd me). Sounds like the stock tank might make it in most situations, but it would no doubt be close on longer races.

Lane,
That viewpoint is about right. As Paul was saying, it obviously depends on how you ride it. However, my experiences with CRF 450's indicate 4 bangers get more range then ring dings.
I did range tests at Croom where I rode for 2 hours at speed, purposefully in low gears, just to get an idea of range. After the test, I had some gas left. Maybe a test like that would be helpful to you, too.
I actually went back to the stock tank (2 gall) on the 450. I have to tell you , though, there were a couple of races where I was wondering if i'd have enough fuel.
MY advice ?would be to see if you can get an aprox. 2.5 gall. ?tank. That way you get piece of mind without having to deal with a bulbous tank. I put an 250X tank on my bike, now I never have to worry about fuel.

I have a 04' 525 EXC and have raced every Hare Scramble in the last 12 months (except Chipley) and always complete the race with fuel left in the tank. ?And I am not talking low intensity trail riding either. ?Sometime I place it on "reserve" before the the start of the race, but sometimes I just put it in the "on" position. ?Either way, I never run out. ?I think you are safe with the stocker EXC tank in Florida. ?http://www.floridatrailriders.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Hey Joe that X tank made you go faster didn't it!http://www.floridatrailriders.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.floridatrailriders.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif http://www.floridatrailriders.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif ....It's ok to admit it.
You might want to double check your tank. The stock KTM 4-stroke tanks (450exc) is 2.5gal. The 2 strokes are 2.11 gal. A little trick is to drain your tank and then pour in fuel in 1/2 gal. amounts, placing a black mark (front of tank, facing radiator) so that you can see your level a little easier than stopping and removing the cap.
