Billie Swamp Safari
WELCOMES The Florida Trail Riders
May 7th – 9th, 2004

Billie Swamp Safari is located adjacent to the Seminole Tribe of Florida Motocross Park on the Big Cypress Reservation. The everglades park has over 2000 acres of land enclosed as open range habitat for a variety of native and exotic animals. American Bison, Ostrich and Asian Water Buffalo, along with Alligators, White-Tail Deer, Black Bear and the endangered Florida Panther are just a few of the animals that may be encountered.

Giant-tired ìswamp buggiesî take guests on 60 minute narrated tours through the park. Riding trails high above grass prairies and deep into hardwood hammocks, visitors become witness to the natural wonders of the Florida Everglades as their guide shares a wealth of knowledge about the land and its inhabitants. Propeller driven ìairboatsî provide an exhilarating 20 minute ride along the parks winding waterway passing through a cypress dome swamp amidst alligators and turtles and passing by a thriving rookery where assorted species of native birds come to roost each evening. A third daily offering is an educational, live reptile presentation where staff attempts to separate fact from fiction providing knowledge as a tool to help dispel some common misconceptions about reptiles. This presentation is usually held in the Herpetarium, which is open for general viewing of reptiles throughout the remainder of the day.

Swamp Buggy Tour, Airboat Ride and Reptile Presentation constitute a ìDay Packageî. ìEducational Packagesî designed for school and youth groups offer additional presentations. A ìNight Packageî available by reservation, consists of a Night Swamp Buggy Tour preceded by Campfire Storytelling beneath a traditional Seminole ìCook Chickeeî or in the ìRound Houseî amphitheatre. An ìOvernight Packageî combines both day and night activities with sleeping accommodations in screen-enclosed, ìChickeesî - pole framed huts with palmetto thatch roofing. The Safari has 30 rental chickees built on piles along the swamp edges, with each located successively further away from the main compound area where restroom and shower facilities are available. There are two single beds, linens and kerosene lanterns in 28 of the chickees. The other 2 are fondly called ìhoneymoon suitesî having only one queen size bed. There are also 9 dormitory ìChickeeî rentals bordering the main compound along the banks of the park waterway, used to accommodate groups and families, with each containing up to 12 single beds, linens and low-amperage electrical lantern lighting.

Billie Swamp Safari welcomes the Florida Trail Riders to Big Cypress Reservation on May 7th, 8th and 9th, with extended hours of operation and discounted activity fees Tours and presentations continue until 9:00 pm each night at 15% off regular rates with proof of membership. Airboat rides stop at dusk. Gift Shop merchandise is not discounted. The on-site restaurant, Swamp Water CafÈ, will also remain open until 9:00 pm providing menu service at regular prices. Menu options include typical American fare, traditional Seminole cultural cuisine and a taste of the Everglades with options like alligator and frog legs.

We are looking forward to your visit. Call 800-949-6101 for information, rates and advance reservations for tours, groups, Night and Overnight Packages. Rates are also available online at www.seminoletribe.com.
