Hare Scrambles Committee Meeting MinutesMarch 24, 2007The meeting was called to order at 7:05pm Officers: Clubs: The minutes from the 1/13/07 meeting were accepted as read. Old Business:1) Joe Steidl presented previously, for George Pollard, a proposal to aid in the congestion of the Saturday race schedule. On several occasions races have had to be delayed. The major problem was identified as a lack of time to reset the scoring equipment between the Peewee and Mini races. The proposal affects Rulebook Chapter VI, section C1, which read in part: Race 1 11:30 AM - 11:45 AM This proposal changes that to: Race 1 11:00 AM - 11:15 AM This gives us the necessary one half hour period for scoring reset. The motion was considered worthy of member consideration. It has been published in the Magazine, and this was the second vote. The motion passed, to be effective at the start of the 07/08 season, pending BOD ratification. 2) Steve Hewitt had previously presented a proposal that would allow 150 four strokes in the mini classes. His stated reason for the proposal is a possible/probable future lack of 2 stroke race bikes in those classes, like what happened in the Junior classes. The motion had been tabled, as Steve was not present to answer questions raised by the proposal. Steve was present at this meeting. The proposal changes Chapter III, section C1 which reads in part: Mini A 0-85 cc 17-19” wheels TO: Mini A 0-85 cc two stroke, 86-150 cc four stroke, 17-19” wheels and Chapter III, J,6 0-85 cc Mini A,B,C TO: 0-85 cc two stroke, 86-150 four stroke Mini A,B,C This proposal was deemed appropriate for consideration by the membership. It will be published in the magazine, and voted on at the next meeting. 3) Mike Preslar had previously presented a proposal that affects several sections of the Rulebook. The result of the proposal would be the removal of all quad classes from the Hare Scrambles Series. His stated reason for the proposal was “Due to the low participation by quad entries in the current HS format, the advent of a Quad Scrambles Series devoted entirely to quad entries, and the need for promoting clubs to better manage the current Saturday format.” This motion has been published in the Magazine, and this was the second vote. The motion was discussed. The motion failed. 4) The general topic of Worked Runs was raised again. The Committee wanted to inquire if any member would like to draft a proposal to adjust the Worked Run format. No new ideas or proposals were presented. New Business:1) Rider Mark Rhoades ( Master B #66) presented a scoring protest as he was not scored at the Apollo HS on 3/11/07.The chicane display at the finish did show his number, and he believes he was in 10th place . Injury occurring at the race prevented him checking scores during the protest period. The Chairman did not vote on this protest, as Mark is a personal friend, but did confirm that Mark did race, was injured, and thus could not be present during the protest period after the race. The protest was upheld. The scores will be researched and corrected as needed. 2) Advancement Rule Proposals- It has been observed that there can be problems with rider advancement, when that advancement is into a small class. Various solutions were discussed. The Committee will investigate lowering the advancement point for the lower division classes (C Displacement and Specialty, Junior B) to balance the advancement process to a lower number then the present 45 advancement points. This subject was tabled until the next meeting. 3) Sam Mento and Mark Bordelon presented a proposal to add an Evolution C Class to Hare Scrambles. The proposal changes Chapter III, section C1: Evolution (A, B) TO: Evolution (A, B,C) and Chapter VI, section C2: Race 5, Row 5 Vintage TO Vintage, Evolution C And Chapter VIII, section B3: Evolution A & B yellow A,B TO: Evolution A,B,C yellow A,B,C The motion was deemed worthy of consideration by the membership. It will be published in the magazine, and voted on at the next meeting. 4) The tentative Hare Scrambles sanction dates for the 2007/2008 season were accepted from the Clubs. A motion to adjourn was accepted. The meeting adjourned at 9:14 pm Submitted by: Joe Steidl, Hare Scrambles Chairman |
